Buying coolants & additives at HodlChip

The coolant protects every metal part in your loop, so choose for reliability first and color second:

  • Clear premixes and additives: a clear premix, or distilled water with a biocide and corrosion inhibitor, needs the least maintenance and stains nothing.
  • Dyed coolants: transparent colors and UV-reactive fluids add color while staying easy to flush.
  • Opaque and pastel coolants: a solid, striking look, but the particles can settle in blocks and radiators, so plan to flush more often.
  • Cleaners: flush new radiators and old loops before filling.

Never use tap water, which leaves mineral deposits, and do not mix coolants from different brands. Stay with one metal family: copper, brass and nickel-plated parts work together, aluminum does not. A 1-liter bottle usually fills a CPU and GPU loop; larger loops with external radiators need more. Drain and refill every 6 to 12 months with clear coolant, and sooner with opaque fluids. Filling bottles and leak testers are in loop tools & accessories, and our custom water cooling guide covers filling step by step.

Questions about coolants & additives

Can I use distilled water on its own?
Distilled water is the base of most coolants, but on its own it offers no protection against corrosion or algae. Add a biocide and corrosion inhibitor, or use a ready-mixed coolant.
How often should I change the coolant?
Every 6 to 12 months for clear coolants, and more often for opaque or pastel fluids, which can settle. Change it sooner if it turns cloudy, changes color or leaves deposits.
Can I mix coolants from different brands?
It is not recommended. Additives from different makers can react, cloud the loop or leave residue. When you switch coolants, drain the loop, flush it with distilled water and refill with one product.
