Buying docks, hubs & stands at HodlChip

Two ways to make a laptop desk-friendly:

  • Laptop stands: foldable, height-adjustable stands raise the screen for better posture and fold flat for travel; 360° rotating stands make it easy to share the screen; vertical stands hold a closed laptop that runs an external monitor. Check the supported laptop sizes, typically 10 to 16 inches.
  • USB-C hubs: add USB-A and USB-C ports, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet and SD card slots through one cable. Some also take an M.2 SATA SSD for extra storage, and one model combines a stand with a hub.

Check three things before buying a hub. Video: HDMI output needs a laptop USB-C port with DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt or USB4, and the hub's HDMI version sets the maximum resolution and refresh rate. Charging: hubs with a Power Delivery input pass your charger's power through to the laptop. Speed: the hub's USB version limits the drives you connect to it.

More hubs and docking stations are listed in drive enclosures & docks, and docking stations for bare drives in drive mounts & accessories.

Questions about docks, hubs & stands

What is the difference between a dock and a hub?
A hub is a small, usually bus-powered adapter with a few ports, made for travel. A docking station has its own power supply, charges the laptop, often drives more displays and offers more ports for a permanent desk setup.
Will a USB-C hub give me an HDMI output?
Only if your laptop's USB-C port carries video through DisplayPort Alt Mode, Thunderbolt or USB4. Look for a DisplayPort or Thunderbolt symbol next to the port, or check the laptop specifications.
Which laptop stand suits my laptop?
Check the supported screen sizes and maximum weight on the product page. Height-adjustable stands suit daily desk use, foldable ones travel well, and vertical stands suit a closed laptop running an external monitor.
