Buying consoles & handhelds at HodlChip

Choose the console for the games you want to play, then check the details that differ between editions:

  • Disc or digital: Digital Edition consoles have no disc drive and play downloaded games only. The PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro accept Sony's separate disc drive if you want to play discs later.
  • Storage: PS5 Slim models ship with 825 GB and the PS5 Pro with 2 TB. A PS5 takes an extra M.2 NVMe SSD (PCIe 4.0, with a heatsink, see SSD coolers). Nintendo Switch 2 stores games on microSD Express cards; standard microSD cards cannot hold Switch 2 games.
  • Where you play: Switch 2 works as a handheld, on a table with its kickstand, or docked to a TV. A PS5 is a home console for the TV or a monitor.
  • Online: online multiplayer needs a PlayStation Plus or Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

What is the difference between the PS5 Slim and the PS5 Pro?
The PS5 Pro has a more powerful graphics processor for higher resolutions and frame rates in enhanced games, and 2 TB of storage. The PS5 Slim is the standard model with 825 GB, available with or without a disc drive.
Can I add a disc drive to a PS5 Digital Edition?
Yes. The PS5 Slim Digital Edition and the PS5 Pro accept Sony's detachable disc drive, sold separately, which then plays Blu-ray game discs and movies.
Which memory card works with Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo Switch 2 needs microSD Express cards to store and play games; standard microSD cards cannot be used for that. Check that a card is labeled microSD Express before buying.
