Buying monitors at HodlChip

Start with what you will use the screen for, then match size and resolution:

  • Gaming monitors: high refresh rates, fast response and adaptive sync. 27-inch 1440p is the popular all-rounder, 4K at 240 Hz suits high-end GPUs, and ultrawide formats add immersion.
  • Sensor & case displays: small screens and LED kits that show temperatures and system stats inside the case or on the desk.
  • Monitor accessories: arms, wall mounts, sim racing monitor stands, cables and adapters.

Size and resolution go together: 24 inches suits 1080p or 1440p, 27 inches suits 1440p or 4K, and 32 inches suits 4K. Panel types trade off differently: OLED has true blacks and very fast response, IPS gives consistent color and brightness, VA offers high contrast for less money, and Mini-LED gets very bright for HDR.

Finish the desk with a monitor arm and the right DisplayPort or HDMI cable for your refresh rate. Our gaming monitor guide explains the specifications in depth.

Questions about monitors

What size and resolution should I choose?
For most desks, 27 inches at 1440p or 4K is a good balance. 24 inches suits competitive gaming and smaller desks, and 32 inches suits 4K. Sit about an arm's length from the screen.
Is an OLED monitor at risk of burn-in?
OLED panels can retain static images over time, such as taskbars or game HUDs. Current models use pixel shifting and panel refresh cycles to reduce the risk, and some manufacturers cover burn-in under warranty; check the warranty terms on the product page.
Which cable do I need for a high refresh rate?
Use the connection the monitor supports at its full refresh rate, usually DisplayPort 1.4 or 2.1, or HDMI 2.1 with an Ultra High Speed certified cable. See DisplayPort and HDMI cables.
