Buying steering wheels at HodlChip

The wheel rim should match the cars you drive and fit your wheel base:

  • Round wheels (300 to 350 mm): for road cars, rally, drift and trucks, where you turn hand over hand.
  • GT and D-shaped wheels (around 300 mm): for GT and touring cars, with plenty of buttons and rotary switches within reach.
  • Formula wheels (around 270 to 290 mm): compact, with many controls and often a display, for single-seaters with small steering angles.

Quick release: each base brand uses its own quick release, and some wheels use open standards. Check that the wheel fits your base directly or with an adapter, and whether buttons and displays still work through it. Paddles: magnetic shifters give a crisp click; dual clutch paddles help with race starts; analog paddles can act as a clutch or handbrake.

A smaller diameter feels quicker and lighter with the same base, while a larger one feels heavier but allows finer steering. Grip material matters for long sessions: suede and microfiber rims are grippy but need cleaning, while leather and rubber last longer. Pair your wheel with a suitable wheel base, and add a shifter or handbrake for rally and drift.

Questions about steering wheels

Will this wheel fit my wheel base?
Check the quick release: wheels made for your base's brand fit directly, while others may need an adapter and can lose some functions. The product page lists the quick release each wheel uses.
Which wheel style should I choose?
Choose a round wheel for road cars, rally and drift, a GT wheel for sports and touring cars, and a formula wheel for single-seaters. If you race many car types, a GT wheel is a versatile first choice.
Does wheel diameter matter?
Yes. A smaller wheel feels lighter and quicker for the same base torque; a larger wheel feels heavier and allows finer steering. Match the diameter to the cars you drive and the strength of your base.
