Buying tubing at HodlChip

Pick soft or hard tubing first, then a size that matches your fittings:

  • Soft tubing: clear PVC shows off the coolant but can release plasticizer over time; black EPDM rubber is practically maintenance-free. Sizes are given as outer/inner diameter, such as 13/10 or 16/10 mm.
  • PETG and acrylic: PETG bends at a lower temperature and resists cracking, but softens if coolant runs very warm; acrylic is stiffer, stays clearer and tolerates more heat, but is more brittle when cut.
  • Glass and metal: borosilicate glass looks the cleanest, and brass and copper tubes give a metal finish; both are usually cut and joined with fittings, or bought pre-bent.

Hard tubes are sold by outer diameter, usually 12, 14 or 16 mm, and need fittings of the same size. For a first loop, soft tubing is the easier choice: it routes around components and forgives small measuring errors. Hard tubing needs a heat gun, bending tools and careful measuring, so buy extra length for practice bends. Bending kits and heat guns are in loop tools & accessories, matching fittings in fittings & adapters, and the custom water cooling guide explains routing.

Questions about tubing

Soft or hard tubing: which suits a first loop?
Soft tubing. It bends around components, needs no special tools and tolerates small measuring errors. Hard tubing looks cleaner but requires heating, bending, precise cutting and more fittings.
What do tubing sizes like 13/10 mean?
Soft tubing is listed as outer/inner diameter in millimeters, so 13/10 has a 13 mm outside and a 10 mm bore. Compression fittings are made for one exact size, so match them. Hard tubes are listed by outer diameter only.
Should I choose PETG or acrylic hard tubing?
PETG is easier to bend and less likely to crack, which helps beginners, but it can soften if the coolant runs very warm. Acrylic is stiffer, stays clearer and tolerates higher temperatures, but it is more brittle when cutting and bending.
