Protect yourself from phishing and scams

Crypto holders are a favorite target for scammers, and online stores are often impersonated. Your best protection is knowing exactly how we operate: any message, website or person that breaks the rules below is not HodlChip.

What HodlChip never does

• Send a payment address by email, chat, direct message or phone. Payment addresses only appear on payment pages at hodlchip.com.
• Ask for your seed phrase (recovery phrase), your private keys, or your wallet PIN or password.
• Ask for your HodlChip password or an authenticator code.
• Ask for remote access to your computer or phone.
• Ask you to connect your wallet to a website, or to "verify" or "synchronize" it.
• Ask you to pay customs charges, or any other fee, by message.
• Ask you to send crypto in order to receive a refund.
• Offer support by direct message, on social media or in a chat app. Our support is by email only.

Common warning signs

• Urgency or threats: "your order will be cancelled", "your wallet has been compromised", "act within one hour".
• Look-alike addresses: extra words or hyphens, a different ending or swapped characters, such as hodlchip-support.com, hodlchip.co, hodIchip.com with a capital I, or hodlchip.com.example.net.
• Sign-in requests: you only ever sign in to your HodlChip account on hodlchip.com itself. We never send sign-in or password reset links by email or message. A message with such a link, or a page on another address asking you to sign in to HodlChip, is fake.
• Sponsored search results: fake shops can buy ads. Type hodlchip.com yourself or use a bookmark.
• Unexpected parcels or "replacement" devices that you did not request, especially hardware wallets that come with a recovery phrase.

How to check an email

• Our support address is support@hodlchip.com, and our emails come from the hodlchip.com domain. Check the actual sender address, not just the display name.
• Our emails never contain a payment address and never ask for your seed phrase.
• If in doubt, do not click. Type hodlchip.com into your browser and check your order at Track order instead.

How to check you are on the real site

1. The address bar shows exactly hodlchip.com, over a secure https connection.
2. On the payment page, the coin and network match what you chose, and the address is new for this order.
3. After pasting the address into your wallet, compare its first and last characters with the payment page. Malware can swap copied addresses.

If you think you have been targeted

1. Do not reply, click links, open attachments or send any payment.
2. Forward the email, or send a screenshot of the message or website, to support@hodlchip.com with the subject Phishing.
3. If you entered your seed phrase anywhere, assume that wallet is compromised. Move your funds immediately to a new wallet with a new recovery phrase, generated on a device you trust.
4. If you sent funds to a scammer, keep the transaction ID and report it to the police and to any exchange involved.
