Buying cables & adapters at HodlChip

Small parts, but the wrong one can stall a build or damage hardware. Match connectors exactly:

  • GPU power: use a 12V-2x6 cable made for your power supply model, or the adapter supplied with the card. Push the plug in fully, with no gap, and avoid tight bends right at the connector.
  • PSU-side cables are not universal: modular connectors on the power supply side use brand- and series-specific pinouts. Buy cables listed for your exact PSU.
  • Fans and RGB: splitters and hubs let several fans share one header. Stay within the header's current rating (often 1 A), and keep 3-pin 5 V ARGB and 4-pin 12 V RGB apart.
  • Storage and USB: SATA data and power cables for 2.5-inch SSDs and hard drives, and internal USB header adapters for front-panel ports and add-in cards.

Planning a show build? Sleeved extensions and full PSU cable kits are listed here: use the Sleeved and Color filters, and choose kits made for your exact power supply. Sleeving material and cable combs for DIY work are in sleeved cables & PSU cables, and monitor connections under display & multimedia cables.

Questions about cables & adapters

Can I use modular cables from my old power supply?
No, unless the manufacturer confirms the new unit uses the same pinout. Modular connectors are not standardized on the PSU side, and a mismatched cable can put 12 V on the wrong pins and destroy drives or the motherboard.
Do I need a 12V-2x6 cable for an RTX 50 card?
Cards with a 12V-2x6 socket usually ship with an adapter for 8-pin cables. A native cable from an ATX 3.1 power supply, or one made by your PSU manufacturer for your model, is tidier and replaces the bulky adapter.
How many fans can I run from one header?
Check the header rating in your motherboard manual, typically 1 A per fan header. Most 120 mm case fans draw well under that, so two or three on a splitter is usually fine; for more, use a fan hub powered from SATA.
