Buying mouse pads & desk mats at HodlChip

A mouse pad changes how your mouse feels more than most sensor upgrades do. Two choices matter:

  • Surface: control pads have more friction for precise stopping; speed pads glide with less effort for fast tracking; hybrid cloth sits in between. Hard plastic and glass pads glide fastest and wear slowly, but they are louder and feel harder under the wrist.
  • Size: low-sensitivity players who aim with the whole arm need a large or extra-large pad; desk mats also cover the keyboard area and protect the desk. Smaller pads suit high sensitivity and travel.

Look for stitched edges, which stop fraying, and a rubber base that grips the desk without sliding. Thickness changes the feel: thicker cloth pads soften the glide and cushion the wrist, while thin pads feel more direct.

Humidity affects cloth pads, which can feel slower in damp conditions, while glass and hard pads stay consistent. Clean cloth pads by hand with mild soap and lukewarm water, and let them dry flat. Mouse feet and pad work together, so a new mouse may feel different on your old pad. A large desk mat also makes a clean base for your keyboard.

Questions about mouse pads & desk mats

Should I choose a speed or a control mouse pad?
Control pads help you stop precisely, which suits tactical shooters and newer players. Speed pads glide more easily for tracking-heavy games. If you are unsure, a balanced hybrid pad is a safe middle ground.
What size mouse pad do I need?
If you aim with your whole arm at low sensitivity, choose a large, extra-large or desk-mat size. If you move mainly with your wrist at higher sensitivity, a medium pad is enough.
How do I clean a cloth mouse pad?
Hand-wash it in lukewarm water with a little mild soap, rinse thoroughly and let it dry flat away from direct heat. Avoid machine washing unless the manufacturer allows it.
