Start with what you run most:

Which processor should I buy for gaming?
A modern 6- or 8-core CPU is enough for most games, and AMD X3D models such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D add extra cache that helps in many titles. Spend the rest of your budget on the graphics card, which has a bigger effect on frame rates.
Do I need a new motherboard to upgrade my CPU?
Only if the socket changes. A Ryzen 9000 chip fits an existing AM5 board, after a BIOS update where required. Moving from an AM4 or LGA 1700 system to AM5 or LGA 1851 needs a new motherboard and DDR5 memory.
Does the processor come with a cooler?
