Overview

This external Blu-ray combo drive reads and writes CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs including BDXL formats up to 128GB. It connects via USB 2.0 and supports 3D playback with 2D-to-3D conversion.

Design and Build

The drive measures 140 by 157 by 18.5 millimeters and weighs 335 grams. A matte black finish and squared lines earned a 2011 iF Design Award. The integrated stand allows stable vertical or horizontal orientation on a desktop.

Performance and Formats

It reads Blu-ray ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE at 6x, including triple-layer 100GB and quad-layer 128GB BDXL discs. DVD±R writes at 8x, dual-layer at 6x, and CD-R at 24x. Buffer size is 5.8 MB for stable burns.

Features and Software

Auto Tuning Power optimizes laser power per disc. Disc Encryption II adds password control and hidden-file protection. Included software enables drag-and-burn in three steps, 2D-to-3D conversion, DVD upscaling to 1080p, and Dolby Digital EX plus DTS-HD 5.1 audio output.

Connectivity and Compatibility

A single USB 2.0 cable supplies both data and 5V power. Supported systems include Windows XP through Windows 7 and Server 2003/2008, plus Mac OS X 10.6 or later. Minimum hardware requires a Pentium D 3.4 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and a DirectX 9 class GPU.
