The Samsung 980 is a DRAM-less NVMe SSD built for everyday computing and gaming. It fits M.2 2280 slots and connects via PCIe 3.0 x4.

Design and Thermal Control

The drive uses a nickel coating on the controller and a heat spreader label on the NAND to manage temperatures. Samsung's Dynamic Thermal Guard algorithm monitors and adjusts heat levels automatically to maintain consistent performance.

Performance and Endurance

HMB technology enables sequential speeds of 3100 MB/s read and 2600 MB/s write over PCIe 3.0. The TLC NAND provides 600 TBW of endurance and a 1.5 million hour MTBF rating for long-term reliability.

Software and Features

Samsung Magician software enables Full Power Mode to keep the drive active for sustained workloads. The toolset also monitors health, optimizes performance, protects data, and delivers firmware updates.
