A single-use lapping tool designed to flatten the heat spreader on AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors. It includes all necessary sandpaper and hardware.

Design and Construction

The tool is machined from transparent acrylic glass using CNC milling. Diamond-milled measurement steps provide clear visual confirmation of material removal progress during the lapping process.

Performance and Use Case

Lapping reduces heat spreader thickness to improve cooler contact. Testing with a Ryzen 9 7950X showed temperature reductions up to 10°C with high-end thermal paste. The tool supports incremental removal of 0.4 mm up to 1.6 mm total, though standard mounting frames limit effective lapping to 1.0 mm.

Compatibility and Notes

Compatible with AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors. Lapping voids the CPU warranty. For maximum contact area, the CPU cooler base plate should also be lapped. Deeper lapping beyond 1.0 mm requires an aftermarket contact frame.
