Buying cpu air coolers at HodlChip

Pick a cooler by the heat it has to move and the space it has to fit in:

  • Single tower: enough for most 6- and 8-core CPUs, including gaming chips such as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, at low noise.
  • Dual tower: more fin area and usually two fans, for 12- to 24-core CPUs under sustained loads.
  • Top blower and low profile: the fan blows down onto the board, which also cools memory and power delivery; low models fit small form factor and slim cases. Check both the height and the heat rating against your CPU.

Compare the cooler height with your case's maximum CPU cooler height, and check RAM clearance: on large coolers the front fan can sit over the memory slots and limit tall heat spreaders. The Socket support filter shows compatibility; AM5 reuses the AM4 mounting holes, and LGA 1851 uses LGA 1700 mounting. Kits for other sockets are in cooler mounts & accessories.

Most coolers include thermal paste, pre-applied or in a tube. If you remount, clean both surfaces and use fresh thermal paste. For very hot chips or tight cases, compare an AIO liquid cooler. The PC Builder checks cooler height against your case automatically.

Questions about cpu air coolers

How do I know if a cooler fits my case?
Find the maximum CPU cooler height in your case specifications and compare it with the cooler height on the product page, leaving a few millimeters to spare. Side-panel fans or radiators can reduce the clearance.
What does the TDP rating of a cooler mean?
It is the manufacturer's estimate of how much heat the cooler can dissipate. Manufacturers measure it differently, so treat it as a rough guide and choose a cooler rated well above your CPU's power draw under load for quieter running.
Does a CPU air cooler come with thermal paste?
Most do, either pre-applied on the base or in a small tube. Pre-applied paste is good for one mount, so if you remove the cooler later, clean off the old compound and apply fresh thermal paste.
