Overview

This delidding tool removes the heat spreader from AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors. It allows direct die mounting of coolers for improved thermal transfer.

Design and Construction

The tool is machined from anodized aluminum with a black and red finish. It measures 74 mm long, 70.1 mm wide, and 19.8 mm high. The design was developed in collaboration with professional overclocker Roman "der8auer" Hartung.

Performance and Use Case

Removing the integrated heat spreader allows the CPU cooler to contact the CPU dies directly. Because Ryzen 7000 processors use indium solder, the heat spreader cannot be reused effectively. Direct die mounting with liquid metal can lower temperatures by 10 to 20 °C compared to stock configurations.

Platform Context

AM5 heat spreaders are thicker and smaller than previous AM4 versions to maintain cooler compatibility. The reduced surface area of approximately 910 mm² limits thermal performance, making direct die cooling a significant upgrade for enthusiasts.
