Overview

A PCIe 2.0 x1 card that adds four RS-232 serial ports with DB9 connectors. Suitable for industrial equipment, POS systems, and legacy device connectivity.

Design and Installation

The card uses a single-lane PCIe 2.0 interface compatible with x1, x4, x8, and x16 slots. Both a standard-height bracket and a low-profile bracket are supplied, along with a secondary bracket that connects via cable for additional port placement flexibility.

Performance and Compatibility

Each port delivers up to 250 kBd with a 256-byte transmit and receive FIFO. The ASIX AX99100 chipset provides 16C550, Extended 16C550, and 16C950 UART compatibility. Plug-and-play automatically assigns IRQ and I/O addresses on supported Windows versions from XP through 11 and Server 2003 onward.

Serial Port Features

Ports support TXD, RXD, RTS, CTS, DTR, DCD, DSR, and RI signals. Configurable options include baud rate, word length from 5 to 9 bits, parity, stop bits, and Xon/Xoff or hardware flow control. Advanced 9-bit data transfer and custom baud rates are also available.

Protection and Use Cases

Each serial port includes ESD protection exceeding ±15 kV air-gap and ±8 kV contact discharge. The card connects ATMs, cash registers, barcode readers, CNC machines, modems, POS terminals, PDAs, and similar legacy serial devices.
